New Jersey Festivals Offer Jazz, Bluegrass and a Chance to Do the Twist Again

SEPT. 19: OSPAC JAZZ AND BREW FESTIVAL, WEST ORANGE
973-669-7385; ospac.org.

The Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center began its annual jazz festival in 2001. In 2013, “they were reorganizing, so they skipped a year,” said Susan Anderson, executive director of the New Jersey Arts Incubator, which took over the event last year. Now, she said, the festival is offering beer and wine.

Its sloping amphitheater includes an 800-foot stage with enough room for an 18-piece orchestra, Ms. Anderson said. The brew festival is next to a small lake, but the internationally celebrated lineup of jazz greats is the main draw, said Robert DeVos, the festival’s artistic director.

Included on this year’s roster: the Bill Charlap Trio, Oscar Perez and the Dave Stryker Quartet. Gary Walker of WBGO-FM will be the host of the event. The rain date is Sept. 20. Tickets are $10.
