Enjoy the Arts Under the Stars at OSPAC in West Orange
The Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center, or OSPAC, is a multi-acre outdoor venue situated next to Crystal Lake in West Orange where you can catch concerts, movie nights and other cultural events throughout the summer.
The OSPAC amphitheater was created in 2000 on land bequeathed to West Orange by Larry Pantier, who wished to honor Oskar Schindler, rescuer of a thousand Jews during the Holocaust, including his father.
The 2015 season kicks off on Saturday, June 20, at 7 p.m., with a free Bring-Your-Own-Chair concert featuring Pidgin Droppings and Rude Boy George. Pidgin Droppings creates a pop culture stew of hip-hop, funk, dub, and various types of African music. The NYC-based band Rude Boy George performs 80s New Wave classics, reinterpreted as ska, rocksteady and reggae tunes. There will be a wine and beer tent, as well as various local vendors.
New Jersey Renaissance Faire
OSPAC is also home to the New Jersey Renaissance Faire (July 25-26) and the 12th Annual Jazz & Brew Fest is set for Saturday, Sept. 19. Since 2012, the facility has been the home of The New Jersey Arts Incubator, an arts-based economic development tool for the community. Three free Family Movie Nights are planned this August on Tuesdays: Frozen (8/4), Maleficent (8/11) and The Lego Movie (8/18).
